Suffolk is brimful of unspoilt joys, but don't tell anyone...
Southwold is certainly a delight. A buckets and spades beach; the fine Adnams beer and unique boutiques, the award winning eating houses and the pretty little streets lined with beautiful painted cottages. From the harbour full of fish shops and children crabbing you can take a rowing boat ferry to the pretty village of Walberswick or a short drive to the fascinating old village of Dunwich (a city lost to the sea) and the nature reserves of Minsmere. Further south to the river and concert venue of Snape, and the uniqueness of Thorpeness with its house in the clouds. Further south to the sophisticated towns of Aldeburgh and Woodbridge.
And if you don't believe us...

The beach is enlivened by bright windbreakers, cricket stumps and intense bucket and spade activity. Kites crisscross the sky. Children run in and out of the rows of beach huts.
A great video on the area from the Telegraph:

You will find no "kiss-me-quick hats" here, but you will find a number of antique and gift shops. Southwold is also famous for its amber and its beer-Adnams brewery, which brews real ales popular with discerning drinkers well beyond the borders of Suffolk.
